When should I, shouldn’t I wear pantyhose, nylons, or tights? What are the fashion rules for hosiery?
Clinton Kelly from “What Not To Wear” answers:
“I can talk about pantyhose for an hour straight. There are better ways to wear hose than others. One way is to trick people into thinking you’re not wearing hose but they need to match your skin tone — if your legs are two shades darker than the rest of your body, that looks weird. The other option is to go completely opposite with fishnets, or pattern tights, or opaque.”
And he elaborates in this video:
So there you have it! Either wear them like you mean it, or go with the super sheer styles that disappear on your legs.

Confidence is key. I am growing into being able to own it. Just two weeks ago, I was unwilling to wear openly. Now I’ve done it a few times and its easier than I thought! Anyway, I’m having fun with it. Thanks for the thoughts, and I look forward to a more in depth look at this question. Thanks.
So, are there “rules” for men wearing pantyhose? I’ve tried a few things, but I wonder what ideas others might have.
Great question. One of these days I’ll put together some information about this. That being said… one must first acknowledge that by wearing pantyhose, you have broken dozens of “rules” of fashion already. Here are a few principles I have discovered that work pretty well for me:
– The conventional rules about shoes being darker than your hosiery still apply.
– If you wouldn’t see a classy woman wearing it, you definitely shouldn’t either.
– All the same rules about coordinating patterns, solids, colors, that you would rely on for putting a suit together, still apply.
– most importantly… OWN IT! Not everyone is going to like it, but if people can sense your confidence, you will get respect.
